Leon lives in La Jolla, CA with his wife Jodi, a licensed psychologist. They have been married for 39 years and love spending time with their growing family. Leon is deeply committed to the success of those around him and passionate about helping others pursue an abundant life.

LEON TOMPKINS, Owner

Leon brings his love of markets and mentoring to The Tides Group. He provides a wealth of trading and portfolio management experience as well as diverse global knowledge and perspective; directing research development, managing investment portfolios, and cultivating a high-touch customer approach.

From 1986 to 1993, Leon was a proprietary trader and portfolio manager with Lindquist Enterprises-AZ, Bear Stearns-NY, and First Chicago-IL. Beginning in 1994 and for the next decade, Leon helped develop Young Life, a Christian organization that serves adolescents and young adults around the world. As the Regional Director, Leon recruited and trained staff and volunteer leaders, and partnered with local committees developing the great work of YL in San Diego County. Leon returned to the markets in 2004, building the Bentford Management Company, LLC which managed the Bentford Partners Global Fund, LP.

 In 2009, Leon shuttered Bentford’s operations and relocated to Doha, Qatar with Regency Group Holding as Vice President, Head of Investments and Chief Operating Officer. He managed a broad portfolio, which grew to ~$3 bln, investing in equities, real estate and fixed income. Upon finishing his contract in Qatar, Leon returned to CA where he managed fixed income and currency exposures totaling over $1.5 bln in more than 80 countries as the Director of Global Financial Risk for World Vision International from 2014-2021.

GIFFORD L. TOMPKINS, III

Maths + Modeling

Gifford creates complex and nuanced processes that provide access to a wealth of historical data which inform precise decision-making. He oversees database infrastructure, analysis and reporting.

Gifford received his BS in Mathematics from Pepperdine University and completed the Data Science Immersive at General Assembly in Denver, CO. His work experience includes inventory flow management, logistics programmer, department manager, and data analysis at Big Brand Tire and Service. Gifford also spent two years teaching high school calculus at the King’s Academy in Madaba, Jordan.

MCKENNA SCOTT

Operations

McKenna excels at detailed organization and astute analysis that keep The Tides Group performing optimally. She oversees project management, market research, daily operations, budgeting and forecasting.

McKenna studied Mathematics and Education at Pepperdine University and received her MBA in Finance at the American University of Beirut. She was a GA at the Olayan School of Business, contributing to a research paper on utilizing business for peace in post war-torn nations, Entrepreneurship in Conflict Zones. While in Lebanon, McKenna also served as the Financial Stewardship Analyst for Horizons International assisting in financial reporting and allocation assessment.
